Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic super root commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to increase vitality, relieve stress and boost brain and cognitive function. Adaptogens help regulate the adrenal/hormonal response to environmental and emotional stressors.
The taste of ashwagandha is earthy and slightly bitter and works well with cinnamon and dates (as in our Relax smoothie) or chocolate.
Due to its effect on hormones, ashwagandha is not recommended during pregnancy.
A complete protein, rich in vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants, bee pollen is used for improving mental alertness and helping concentration levels over an extended period of time. Studies have linked bee pollen and its compounds to health benefits such as decreased inflammation, improved immunity, menopausal symptom relief, improved liver health and wound healing.
Bee pollen tastes similar to honey and works well as an acai or oat bowl topping or blended into any smoothie.
Cacao is the raw, unprocessed bean of the cacao plant. It contains the highest concentration of magnesium and antioxidants of any food on the planet. Matcha is a type of green tea made by grinding young, shade-grown tea leaves into a fine, bright green powder. Matcha is packed with antioxidants—up to ten times the amount of other green teas. Studies have shown that matcha can boost metabolism and burn calories; detoxify the body and protect against disease; enhance mood and concentration; lower cholesterol and regulate blood sugar. While it contains about 60 mg of caffeine per teaspoon, the phytonutrients in matcha slow the absorption of the caffeine which prevents spikes and crashes and provides a longer term, calmer alertness.
